Gary Laursen started his career in the building business at the age of nine where he helped his father who was a home builder in Bend, Oregon at his home building sites, by cleaning up and performing small construction tasks. At age 10 he stepped up to using a skill saw and at age 13 he constructed his first home under the direction of his father. At age 15 he was running a three man crew and had a small sub-contracting business installing siding. Working at 5 cents an hour he saved up enough money to buy a $300 car at age 15. He put two years in the military at age 17 then worked for a home building contractor as a finish carpenter and lead framer till he was 22 which was when he started his own business building custom homes. Gary was involved with the design and construction working directly with the consumer constructing literally hundreds of custom high quality homes. This Home Owner’s Manual was written with the help of many sub contractor specialists, material and product suppliers and industry standards from quality product manufacturers, wonderful clients and 44 years of experience as a building contractor.
