There are many items in the home that can be automated for convenience, and technology allows us to control much of this from our smartphones.
A “smart home” is one in which smart devices are installed to increase convenience and security for the homeowner.
What does this mean?
Peace of Mind
It’s ninety degrees outside, but you don’t run your air conditioner full bore all day. Set it at an acceptable unoccupied temperature during the day, but prior to leaving the office, ramp up that air so it’s a comfy temp when you get home. This can be done conversely in the winter, and you’ll save on your energy bill. Make sure to ask your heating and air conditioning professional for ideal unoccupied temperatures.
Smart homes are not only for basic needs. They can be extravagant. Maybe you want to be able to change the lighting in a room. LED lighting features offer endless color combinations and effects, all from your phone. Music can be heard and controlled throughout in-wall speakers wherever you desire the ability to have it. Imagine your kids listening to loud music in the den, and you listening to your favorites in the living area. You would have the control over both volume dials.
Worried that someone may break into your house? Worried the kids are up? Stock up on the cameras, and have them all accessible from your smart device. They can also notify you when they sense movement and record when necessary. You may have seen the cameras catching package thieves on people’s front porches. The cameras are also effective theft deterrents. Security cameras can also notify emergency professionals as can smoke or CO detectors.
Peace of Mind
Possibly the biggest benefit of a smart home is peace of mind. Did you leave the oven on? You can check with your smart phone. Do you want to reduce your water waste and control your sprinkler system without difficult knobs and complicated systems? There’s an app for that. Just about anything electronic can be controlled with these systems, and it allows you to check their statuses while you are away. Never wonder if you left the lights on again. In fact, turn them off and on randomly from your device to make it appear as if you are home. There are endless options.
